Annie Mae “Pat” Gaston was born August 17, 1929 in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late Annie L. Davis Gaston and Johnnie H. Gaston. She transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest on June 2, 2020. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son Shelton D. Howard and siblings Willie Gaston and Virginia Mayhew.
Annie attended Charlotte Mecklenburg School Systems and was a graduate of Torrence Lytle High School, Huntersville, NC, Class of 1952.
She was a faithful and devoted member of the Usher Board at Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church for 70 years. Annie was a member of the Lay Council, Pastor’s Aide, Stewardess Board and Missionary Society. Ms. Annie was lovingly known as the “Mother of her Church.”
Ms. Pat as she was affectionately called served as Secretary for the Usher Board and Quarterly Conference at Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church. She served many years as Advisor to the Junior Usher Board of Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church. She served as Treasurer for the North Charlotte District Ushers. She was a faithful member of the Western North Carolina Conference and the Piedmont Episcopal District Ushers’ Ministry.
Annie leaves to cherish her life one sister Emma Sloan. Grandchildren: Camillia Withers (Todd), Cameeka Howard, Konica Sherrill, Cedric Howard, Catrina Cason (Cornell), 14 great grands and 3 great great grands.
