Betty Jean Torrence Knox was born in Iredell County on April 5, 1937 to the late Mary Torrence Kerns and Alfred Donaldson. She transitioned this life on January 30, 2021.
Betty received her education from the Mecklenburg County School System. She was employed by Davidson College; Mt. Zion Methodist Church and NC Children’s Home. She later began doing private duty work. Betty loved to cook for her family and many others. She was known throughout Davidson for making her famous cakes and pies. Betty loved everybody and would help anyone that was in need.
Betty, the oldest grandchild of Clinton and Janie Torrence, is survived by her daughters--Denise Torrence and Wendy Torrence of the home, Sherry Torrence Stitt of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren--Tyrus Donaldson (LaToya), Jamie Stitt (Damian), Shamika Potts, Devazio Pearson, Justen Stitt (Tina) and Precious Moore (Shawn)--great grandchildren-- Jazmine Rivens, Shawayla Potts, Kadarian Potts, Aniah Stitt, Korahn Bethea, Jarvis Potts, David Roseboro and Riyan Stitt--2 sisters, Dorothy Burton and Laura Huntley (James), 3 goddaughters--Elizabeth Wilson, Karee Reid and Belinda Ramsey, a special cousin/sister, Helen Parson, a special cousin/friend, Annie Mildred Lowery, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
