Brenda McCorkle Obituary

Mrs. Brenda Faye McCorkle, daughter of the late Lucille Young McCombs Moten and the late John Frank McCombs was born on August 14, 1959 in Iredell County, North Carolina. She departed this life on Monday,  September 30, 2024.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Diane McCombs, and brothers John Frank McCombs Jr. and John Wayne McCombs; aunts, Alice Sherrill, and Barbara Young; and uncles, Floyd Young, Fred Young, William Young, Apostle Teross Young, and Harrison McCombs.

Brenda attended Dunbar High School in Mooresville, NC. She later furthered her education at Mitchell Community College and received her CNA certification. She worked for Templon and Cannon Mills as a loom weaver for many years.  She was then a long time employee of the Brian Center Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing facility where she provided transport for patients.

She was a dedicated member of Bethpage Presbyterian Church for 11 years; however, she grew up going to what is formally known as St. Paul United Methodist Church in her younger years. At Bethpage, Brenda was a member of the Woman’s Association, and also served in a missionary capacity doing outreach work. She loved her community, and her community loved her. She was literally an Angel on earth who never met a stranger. If she had it, it was yours as well. Brenda helped tirelessly in her community and in her family to make sure everyone had what they needed. Brenda and Walters story was one for the ages; she was a dedicated wife and would do anything for her husband. Where you saw one, you saw the other, they would do anything for each other. These two were one in the same, down to the way they dressed.

She leaves to cherish loving memories of her life, her husband Walter Lee McCorkle; her daughter Latonya Faye Allen (Earnest); a granddaughter, Tori Nichole Allen; two grandsons, Isaiah James Allen, Cameron James Allen; one great granddaughter, Brooklyn Dreame Allen. She also leaves one sister Wanda McCombs (Antonio); one brother, Sherlock McCombs (Debbie); a very special loving aunt, Overseer Virginia Byers, also Melba Norman (Richard); and an uncle, Howard Young. She also leaves a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
