Mrs. Brenda Henderson Smith peacefully transitioned to Glory at Novant Hospital-Huntersville on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Born Brenda Diane Henderson on July 6, 1958, in Mecklenburg County, NC, she was the beloved daughter of the late Roosevelt and Ida Henderson.
Preceding her in death were her cherished son, Shamaira Bernard Smith; brothers, Larry D. Henderson and Jerry L. Henderson; great-nephew, Kingston Henderson; and sister-in-law, Sarah K. Sherrill.
Brenda became a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at a young age, where she actively participated in the Girl Scouts Troop, the Usher Board, and the Women’s Softball Team. Later in life, she joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and afterwards became an associate member at Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
After graduating from North Mecklenburg High School in 1976, Brenda began her career at General Time Electronics in Davidson, NC. She later joined BestCo Inc. in Mooresville, NC, where she dedicated over 30 years of service. Even while employed, Brenda was a very devoted caregiver for her family, a role she continued to fulfill even after her retirement.
In September of 1987, Brenda married her “superman”, Wayne. Brenda and Wayne were simply inseparable pals, always together whether they were shopping, gardening flowers, taking care of family, or working on home renovations. Brenda had a great passion for baking, decorating and designing. She was simply a straight shooter, with love, who never sugar-coated anything and was a true champion for the Lord.
Brenda leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories with her devoted husband of 36 years, Wayne B. Smith; two daughters, Sheketa Smith (Kevin Younce) of Catawba, NC, and Brandy Butler of Richmond, VA; four grandchildren, Kelo Smith, Kane Parson, Tyral Smith, and Jayden Smith; a great-grandchild, Ariyanah Smith; brothers-in-law, Hubert “Butch” Smith (Willete) of Stanley, NC, and Johnny Smith (Janet) of Denver, NC; sisters-in-law, Patricia Smith of Denver, NC, and Debra Linton of Lawndale, NC; oldest cousin, Katie Clark; special uncle, Eugene M. Barringer; aunts, Odessa B. Moultry, Betty Patterson, Betty Henderson, Estelle Barringer, and Nellon Barringer; one great-aunt, Louise Connor; running partner, Valarie Neely; and family assistant, Alex Lowe. Brenda will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
