Darlene Johnson Sloan of Mooresville, NC went home to be with Jesus Christ on June 8th, 2022 at S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House. She was born on April 11th, 1958 to the late Charlene and Willie “Cootah” Houston. Darlene graduated from Mooresville Senior High and worked for Draymore Manufacturing Corporation for two decades. She then elevated her talent of caring for others and became a certified nursing assistant from Mitchell Community College. Darlene spent most of her second career working for Comfort Keepers Home Care before she retired in 2020. In the middle of being a CNA, she served in her most passionate role of five years as caregiver for her twin granddaughters. Darlene faithfully served the church at Morrows Chapel United Methodist Church.
Darlene leaves behind her husband of forty-three years, Frank Edward Sloan. Her son Travers Sloan (Molita) and his daughters Lola and Ava Sloan of Franklin, TN. She is also survived by a daughter that she gained with love, Lynell Draper (Jermaine) and her children Mikal Godwin, Kali Madox, and La’Mia Draper of Concord, NC. Darlene was preceded in death by her brother Willie Lewis Houston Jr. and leaves her remaining loving brothers and sister to cherish her memories. Jeffrey Houston of Mooresville, NC, Anthony Houston of Statesville, NC, Eugene Houston of Mooresville, NC and Marquitta Houston of Mooresville, NC. Darlene was also blessed to have two honorary fathers in Sterling Mckee and Mitchell Caldwell. Lastly Darlene leaves behind a multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends that she loved dearly.
