David Whitley Sr. Obituary

David “Daddy Dave” Whitley Sr. was 84 years old when he took his flight to heaven. He  departed this walk of life on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at home in Huntersville, NC due to natural causes. Mr. Whitley was born in Mecklenburg County, NC on   February 8, 1935.  He was the eighth child of thirteen born to the late Lonnie Whitley and the late Kizzie Whitley.  He was preceded in death by his wife Annie Whitley and his daughter Sherrie Bost.  He was also preceded in death by five sisters Mildred Jackson, Lugina Simelton, Dorothy Smith, Annie Henderson and Willie Mae Henderson; and two brother Sinclair Whitley and Matthew Gibson. Mr. David Whitley attended Torrence-Lytle School in Huntersville, NC.  He married the love of his life Annie Stintson and they were happily married for many years.  He was employed by the Town of Huntersville, where he was a sanitation worker for many years until he retired.  Mr. Whitley was a faithful member of Chapel Hill Memorial Baptist Church.  He served on the Trustee Board. Mr. Whitley was a kind and gentle person.  He would lend a helping hand to anyone and he never met a stranger.  He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. He was honest and always had time to make you laugh. He enjoyed working on automobiles and lawnmowers.  Mr. Whitley leaves behind four sons David Whitley, Jr. of Huntersville, NC; Harris Whitley and Ladon Sloan, both of Charlotte, NC; and Jimmy Whitley (Gertrude) of Lincolnton, NC.  He also leaves one daughter behind Ruby Whitley of Charlotte, NC.  He leaves behind seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.  He leaves behind four sisters: Bessie Henderson (Sandy), Edna Fewell, and Lonnie Mae Sloan all of Charlotte, NC; Susie Thompson (Larry) of Cornelius, NC and one brothers Lonnie Gene Whitley (Virginia) of Huntersville.  He leaves behind seven brother-in-laws and five sister-in-laws.  He leaves behind two special church family members  Jaytwanne Williams and Connor Williams. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish his memories.
