Dennis Jazel Long was born in Denver North Carolina on January 3, 1929, to the late Thelma Long Nixon. He departed his life on July 11, 2024, at the VA Salisbury Hospice House.
Dennis served in the US Army for 2 years, upon completion of service he lived in New York until returning to North Carolina in 1975. He was passionate about cars and had a love for any sweets and chocolates. He was a faithful member of Morrows Chapel UMC, was known for his beautiful singing voice and thoroughly enjoyed singing in the hymn choir. He also held several positions in the church; including being President of the UMM (United Methodist Men), serving as a Trustee, being a Lay Leader, and Lay Speaker. His bible studies with Rev. William Gerhardt were the most important part of his Christian Walk and expounded on every lesson.
Dennis married the love of his life; Eloise Cornelius in 1954 and they were married for 56 years before her passing in 2010. He is also preceded in death by 4 brothers: Dallas Long, Curlee Nixon, Henry Nixon, Laurence Nixon and four sisters: Sarah Nixon Glenn, Barbara Jean Nixon Sheppard, Betty Nixon Mckoy and Norris Nixon Wilson and a special sister/cousin Nannie Long Nixon.
Those left to cherish his memories are one daughter, Michelene Quick of Cornelius, NC, one son, Michael J. Long, one granddaughter: Keesha Taylor, two grandsons: Collin Brandon and Tyrone Long, three great grandchildren: Collin Taylor, Amari Taylor and Megan Brandon, sisters in law: Ruth Ann Nixon of Denver, NC, Peggy Nixon of TN, Daisy Bryant, and Nellie Work both of Statesville, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews.
