Obituary

Donald R. Glaspy, affectionately known as “Duke” was born in Rowan County, North Carolina on August 15, 1936.  He was the son of the late John Lee and Clara Rankin Glaspy.  He departed this life on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter (Theresa L. Glaspy); three brothers (Frances Lee (Frank), William (Bill) and (Robert L. Glaspy); two sisters (Julia Mae and Virginia Ruth); one granddaughter (Chanda T. Sifford); one father-in-law (Terry Graham), one daughter-in-law (Donna M Glaspy).

Duke was a 1957 graduate of Unity High School, Statesville, North Carolina.  He was gainfully employed 30 years plus as an entrepreneur at Glaspy Auto Service in Mooresville, North Carolina where he became known as “The Original Car Doctor”. He joined Antioch Baptist Church at an early age. He was on the Deacon Board and sung with Antioch Spiritual Singers, Antioch Senior Choir and Singing Stars of Shinnsville for many years, Layman League, Superintendent of Sunday School and a teacher.

He played softball with Soul Patrol of Cleveland, basketball for Unity High School and when inclement weather hit, he opened up his home for Sunday School. He loved crab legs and his man cave (the snack the shack). 

He had a passion for fishing, helping people, working on cars and of course gardening.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life, his wife for 62 years, Juanita G. Glaspy; three daughters: Cozette Ramsey of Troutman, North Carolina, Donna E. Glaspy of the home, and Evora D. Glaspy of Statesville, North Carolina; two sons: Felix (Lora) Graham and Ray L. Glaspy of Troutman, North Carolina; God-daughter: Winifred “Tabby” Brandon-Motley of Jacksonville, Florida;  11 grandchildren: Charmane Ramsey, Chakiris Ramsey, Shirlandra Glaspy, and Dondre’ Glaspy of Troutman, North Carolina,  Aaron (Samone) Graham and Courtney Graham of Mooresville, North Carolina, Delisse’ Glaspy, Adrian Sifford and Rhukia Ramsey of Statesville, North Carolina, Dyneka Glaspy of Charlotte, North Carolina, Bryson Glaspy of Gastonia, North Carolina, God Granddaughter, Molena Motley of Jacksonville, Florida, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; two brothers: Scott Rankin of Mooresville, and Jay (Doris) Glaspy of Plainfield, New Jersey; two sisters: Ada Graham and Katie Pearson of Statesville, North Carolina; one aunt: Eldora Rankin of Cleveland; four   sisters-in law: Yvonne Rucker of Cincinnati, OH, Shirley Torrence, Shirley Kennedy and Shirley Knox of Mooresville, North Carolina, Special Coworker: Ezra “Tony” Caldwell of Mooresville, North Carolina, host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
