Donnie McCauley was born on February 2, 1962, to the late Norvell Black and Florida McCauley in Charlotte, NC. On December 26, 2024, Donnie transitioned from his earthly home to his eternal home. Donnie, a lifelong Cornelius, North Carolina resident grew up in a close-knit family. He was a 1981 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School. During his high school years, he was a participant on the track and field team and a proud member of the Cool Cats neighborhood baseball team. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on his Carolina Panthers, his beloved Atlanta Braves, and his favorite NBA team: Charlotte Hornets. He was last employed at Southern Welding as a fork lift driver where he worked for several years.
Donnie was a complex individual, known for his sharp tongue and no-nonsense approach to life. Though he often kept others at a distance, those who knew him best recognized a man who, in his own way, was deeply loyal and consistent in his convictions. He had a reputation for speaking his mind, and his presence was often felt wherever he went. He enjoyed his quiet moments, sitting in his car listening to music, where he could reflect on the world around him.
Donnie faced many challenges throughout his life, some of which were difficult for him to navigate. Though he rarely spoke about his struggles, it was clear that he fought his battles with a quiet determination. His life was not without hardship, but he lived it on his own terms, refusing to bend to others’ expectations. Donnie’s memory will linger in the hearts of those who knew him, not always for his kindness, but for his authenticity.
Preceded in death by his father Novell Black and his brother Christopher McCauley, Donnie is survived by his mother Florida McCauley; son, Tavaruss Campbell; daughters, Donte Bailey (Kendell) and Donja McCauley (Jonathan); three grandchildren, Kne’Asya Bailey, Kendell Bailey Jr., London Thomason; brothers; Stacy Black, Jackie Black,Vernon Black, and Curtis Sloan; sisters, Sharon Rivens, Cindy McCauley, Debbie Harris, and Gracie McCrea (Ray); God mother; Rebecca Alexander, Special friend; Tomika Green and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
