Edythe Stevenson Obituary

Mrs. Edythe Summers Stevenson, 93, of Statesville, NC, died Thursday May 2, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on November 16, 1930, to the late Rufus Summers and Minnie Mae Gardner Summers.

Edythe graduated from Unity High School in 1951 in Statesville. Edythe worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Iredell Memorial Hospital, where she enjoyed helping her patients. She also worked over 40 years in the funeral services industry and helped manage the family business, Stevenson Grave Service. She was a member of Freedom Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon, sang as a soloist in the choir, chair of the Memorial Day committee, and captain of the annual church fundraiser event. Edythe loved cooking, singing, supporting her church and most importantly being a grandma to many who knew her, which extended beyond her immediate family. She was full of life, sass, laughter and love, keeping all around her smiling. Being amongst her family and friends brought her so much joy.

Edythe is preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Joseph Dorman Stevenson; a son, Reggie Dale Stevenson; a grandson, Deshawn “Shawn” Tyrae Stevenson; four sisters, Louise Daniels, Margaret McClean, Etta Stevenson, Ruthie Mae Redmond; three brothers, Nathaniel Howard, Wayne Summers, Marshall Summers.

She leaves to cherish memories of her life; her son Barry, and wife, Diane Stevenson of Atlantic Beach, FL; son/grandson Aric and wife, Kristi Stevenson of Troutman, NC; daughter-in-law, Susan Stevenson of Cincinnati, OH, grandchildren Nickey Nicole Stevenson of Cincinnati, OH, Chris and wife, Jennifer Wells of Jacksonville, FL and Devin Tyler Stevenson of Troutman, NC; two great-granddaughters, Madison and her husband Jeff Albanese and Haley McMillian of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Gwendolyn Summers and Kathy(Glenn) Millsaps of Statesville, NC; three brothers, Charles “Sonny” Summers, Thomas “Buck” Summers, Larry Summers (Geneva) of Statesville, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
