Ervin Rayfield Harvell was born on January 29, 1941 to the late P.C. Harvell and Mildred Donaldson Harvell in Cornelius, NC. He departed this life on July 10, 2024 at PEAK Resources Rehab and Nursing Home.
Ervin was preceded in death by his second wife, Clara Kearse Harvell; two daughters, Sherry Reneé Witherspoon (Anthony) and Jennifer Harvell; one son, John Lewis Harvell (Yvette); four siblings, Lilly H. Caldwell (Clifford), Paul Harvell, Richard Harvell (Josie), and Annette Watson (Leegette); and one nephew, Ricky B. Harvell.
Ervin was educated in the Mecklenburg County School System where he was active in sports. He graduated from Torrence-Lytle High School with the class of 1961. He worked hard to provide for his family and was a faithful member of Union Bethel AME Zion Church until his health began to fail. He was a dedicated member of the Steward and Usher Boards. He also sang with the Men’s Choir and Hallelujah chorus.
Left to cherish his memory are a daughter; Mable Harvell; five granddaughters, Daija, Brittany, Lashee, Anquanetta Sheree, Kendra, and Allysia; a daughter in law, Yvette Harvell; a son in law, Anthony Witherspoon; one brother, Buford Harvell (Fannie); sister in law, Geneva Harvell; and one uncle, Thomas Donaldson. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
