Mr. George Junior Johnson, son of the late George Johnson Sr. and the late Lucille Reid was born May 18, 1930 in Cabarrus County. He traded time for eternity on Monday, December 28, 2020 to be with his heavenly father.
Mr. Johnson attended Coddle Creek Schools, then went to barbering school, and later joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. Before retiring George worked for Caterpillar in Charlotte, NC he also did maintenance work for the school system.
George was a faithful member of Bethesda A.M.E. Zion Church, where he sung with the Men’s Choir and also was a member of the Willing Travelers. He received an award for being the oldest member of the church. He loved going to singings whenever he could. He also loved baseball, and identified as the Atlanta Braves biggest fan.
He is preceded in death by both parents, his first wife Georgia Mae Johnson, his second wife Zula Johnson; one daughter, Phyllis Ann Johnson, and his brother, Harold Wilbur Knox.
He leaves to cherish fond memories of his life, his children, Joyce E. Cannon, Curtis E. Johnson (Eva), and Nathan T. Johnson (Sheila), all of Mooresville, NC; his step children, Cynthia Gary (Ingram), Billy (Cathey) Griffin, Helen Griffin, and Donna Carson; He leaves 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; also his sisters and brother in law, Lillian Reid of Mooresville, NC, Louise Collins and James Caison both of New Jersey, along with a host of nieces , nephews, and cousins.
