Hazel (Kerns) Smith

Mrs. Hazel Kerns Smith, was born in Mecklenburg County to the late William Junius Kerns and Mamie Turner Kerns on June 4,1941. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Leslie Smith; her daughter Joy Denise Mason Guy; her grandson, Brian Mason; her brother William "Spot" Kerns; and her sister, Diane Kerns Thompson. She accepted the invitation from God to return to His heavenly home on Friday, April 18, 2025. 

Hazel Kerns Smith was educated at Torrence-Lytle High School in Huntersville, NC where she graduated in 1958. After moving to New York, she furthered her education and worked as a key punch operator, teacher assistant, and a sales associate at Dillard's. Before her illness, she was a faithful member of Reeder Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a Deaconess and member of the Hymn Choir. 

She leaves to cherish her memory ; her daughter, Tiffany; three sisters, Barbara Smith of Huntersville, NC, Pearl Knox, and Carolyn McCoy (Ernest) of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Alphonse Smith; great grandchildren: Alphonse Jr. and Alneisha of New Orleans, Nemiah Noel Smith of Charlotte, NC; Joy Michelle, Delia, DJ, Charm and Nava Smith of Charlotte, NC; one brother-in-law, John Smith (Deloris) of New Orleans, four sisters-in-law, Inez Holts and Dorothy Scott of Tujuna, CA; Mary Henderson of St. Francisville, LA, Erma Jean Smith of Los Angeles, CA; two favorite cousins, Betty Caldwell and Pauline Caldwell of Huntersville, NC, close friends Josie LaCour of New Orleans, Betty Clark of Charlotte, NC, Betty Phillips of Huntersville, NC, and a host of other relatives and friends.
