James Albert Mayhew III was born on March 8, 1976 to the late Johnny Edward Mayhew and Rosetta Connor in Washington D.C. He was later raised by Sterling and the late Allean McKee as their own. On December 22, 2021, James answered his call home to take eternal rest.
James also known as Big Boo or Black attended Mooresville Graded School District. He was also an employee of the district. James was a patriarch in his community. He loved the Carolina Tarheels win or lose along with coaching and mentoring kids. He was loved by all who knew him.
While living in Wilmington, NC he met the love of his life, his wife Tammy. From that union came three daughters, Ti’erra, Ja’Shirah, and Ja’liyah Mayhew and his only grandson A’MaiJhay Brewer.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Jarrad Connor, Joe W. Phifer II (Ann), and Rodney D. Phifer.
Along with his loving wife, and daughters, he leaves to cherish his memory; three sisters, Wanda Smith (Erwin) Mooresville, NC, Rosiland Bulls Monroe, NC, and Lisa Speaks (Gary) Mooresville, NC; five brothers, David Connor (Bridgett) Washington, DC, Danny Connor (Apryl) Washington, DC, Johnny L. Mayhew Statesville, NC, Jeffery S. Phifer (Penny) Statesville, NC, and Elliot M. Phifer Mooresville, NC; his God parents, Chuck and Janet Moore and family. He also leaves his aunt-in-law Rochell Larry, and best friends; Steven Sexton and Allen Jones to cherish his memory along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
