Janie Bell Deese
Surrounded by family on the afternoon of August 1, 2021 she entered into eternal rest while a resident at Grayson Creek Assisting Living and Memory Care Center of Lexington, NC. For the past five years, Mrs. Deese made her home at the Brookdale Memory Care Center in Concord NC.
Janie is preceded in death by her Husband, Fred E. Deese; daughter, Cora Deese; and son John Deese, sister Ruby Love.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Baylor of Charlotte, 7 children: Mae Deese of Baltimore, James Deese (Myra) of Florence, SC, Hugh Deese (Patricia) of Moncton Province, Canada, Delores Black (William) of Concord, Willie Deese (Carol) of Chapel Hill, Emma Owens (Frank) of Boston, Freddie Deese (Deidre) of Charlotte, NC. Grandchildren, Shannon Coleman of Charlotte, Brandon Deese (Ashley) of Santa Clarita, California, Toussaint Deese of Charleston, Mikayla Deese of Charlotte, Sophia Owens of Boston and Mychal Deese of Charlotte. One great-grand child, Bridge Deese, Santa Clarita, California, 8 nieces, 1 nephew and a host of cousins and friends.
She was educated at Torrence Lytle High School in Huntersville NC, and later on, employed as a domestic with several families in the Davidson College Community for over 25 years.
Janie was a lifelong and the oldest member of Huntersville AME Zion Church. She held many positions over the span of her lifetime, serving as church secretary, class leader, leader of leaders, missionary, chairman of trustees, delegate to annual conference, hymn choir, steward of the board of stewards, president of pastor’s aid committee and president of deaconess board.
Loved entertaining and cooking for family and friends especially friends of her children. Apple pie, homemade vegetable soup, macaroni and cheese were just some of her favorite dishes.
