Jannie Uyvonne Allison Mitchell was born to the late James and Lillie Allison on December 22, 1937 in Rowan County. She departed her life on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, NC. Jannie was the oldest of four children. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother James Allison Jr. She was educated in the Iredell County Public School System. As a young woman Jannie made the ultimate sacrifice and moved to New York City in hopes of better opportunities, while in New York she met & married the love of her life, the late Nathaniel Mitchell Sr.
Their love created a family of four daughters, and two sons. Their reputation for being strong and loving parents and accepting children spread throughout their neighborhood. This realization led to the growth of their family with adopted children. Jannie obtained a job with The New York City Board of Education as a school Dietitian for over 30 years, where she was regarded as a nice and dependable worker. Jannie embodied a woman who was confident and trustworthy. She was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess, and Missionary. She loved to make people around her satisfied and comfortable. Mom would spread her love for her family by cooking.
Jannie leaves to cherish her six children, Linda White (Lonnie), Bruce Allison (Barbara), Sharon Sheely (Benjamin), Joyce Mitchell, Nathaniel Mitchell Jr., Audrey Walton (Norris), adopted daughters, Cynthia Bullock (Ronald), and Gloria Rucker.; two sisters, Mamie McKee (Billy) and Betty Allison. She also leaves twelve grandchildren, Garrick Rucker, Yolanders Vaughters, Tonisha White, Nichelle Perry, Brian Allison, Christopher Walton, Candice Allison, Lanise White, Emanuel Roper, Calvin Quincy Ravenell, Shayna Walton, Naquan Ropen; sixteen great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter; one aunt, Ruth Rankin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friend.
