On July 15, 1955, Jerry Louis Henderson was born in Mecklenburg County to the late Roosevelt and Ida Henderson. In the early morning hours of Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Novant Hospital-Huntersville, he peacefully transitioned to Glory from his earthly home.
Jerry joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts Club, Gospel Chorus, Senior Choir, and the Men’s Softball Team.
A proud graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Jerry began his career at Charlotte Pipe and Foundry before moving on to Duke Power Company (McGuire Nuclear Station).
Jerry had a passion for fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed assisting with cooking the fish and chicken at his family gatherings and Mt. Olive’s Family Day. Jerry cherished his family and the Long Creek community. Known for his gift of storytelling, he could captivate you with a story at any moment.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Larry Henderson, nephew, Shamaira B. Smith, and great-nephew, Kingston Henderson.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his nephews, Brian Henderson and Jarvis Jones, both of Charlotte, NC; great-niece, Briona Henderson; great-nephew, Jayden Smith; two great-great nieces; brother-in-law, Wayne Smith (in loving memory of Brenda Smith) of Denver, NC; one uncle, Eugene M. Barringer; four aunts, Odessa Moultry, Betty Patterson, Estelle Barringer, Nellon Barringer; eldest cousin, Katie Clark; great-aunt, Louise Connor, cousins and friends. Jerry will be deeply missed.
