Jerry Logan Potts, JP, was a loving father, brother, husband, cousin, and friend born on November 25, 1960 to Gerald “Mickey” Potts and the late Nannie “Nan” Potts. He departed from this life on October 18, 2022.
Born and raised in Cornelius, NC, as a child, he enjoyed baseball, football, and making model cars with his twin brother Gary Potts. At an early age he joined Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church of Cornelius, NC. Being the son of a mother who was an educator, education was important to Jerry. He attended Cornelius Elementary, J.M. Alexander Middle School, and North Mecklenburg High School.
In 1976 at the age of 16, he found his love for service and helping others. Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the local volunteer firefighters; and shortly after his twin brother would join as well. He served at the Cornelius Fire Department for 10 years, later transferring to the Gilead Fire Department in 1986 now known as Huntersville Station #2. Jerry would serve his community as a volunteer firefighter for over 33 years.
Jerry graduated from North Mecklenburg High School with the class of 1979. After high school, he continued as a volunteer firefighter, and furthered his education attending a printing school in Massachusetts. After returning home to Cornelius, he would start his career as warehouse technician for the paper company Westvaco now called Veritiv. He retired in August 2017 after 33 years.
It was in middle school where he would meet and fall in love with Patenna Robinson and go on to be high school sweethearts. After dating for many years and having their first child together, Marconi Robinson, Jerry and Patenna would marry on July 26, 1986.
Jerry (JP) lived life the best way he could and enjoyed family vacations, playing pool with his brothers and friends; or just being home watching his favorite shows, doing crossword puzzles, and playing solitaire. He will be truly missed as a loving father, brother, husband, cousin, and friend.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Nannie H. Potts.
