Joseph G. McClain was born February 18th, 1930 in Huntersville, NC to Emma L. McClain. He transitioned to his heavenly home on January 31, 2021.
At the early age of 9 years old he moved to Davidson , NC where he lived his entire life. He graduated from Torrence- Lytle High School in 1949. Once graduating he attended Johnson C Smith University for a year before deciding to serve his country in the United States Army for 3 years. He then returned home and attended Modern Barber College in Winston Salem, NC. He married his Lifelong love Erving White in 1956 and their union created their only child David Todd McClain.
He worked as a full time Barber until 1973 and then transitioned to Duke Power Company and retired from there in 1990. He continued barbering part time until 2015 where he continued to touch people’s lives on a daily basis.
He is preceded by his mother Emma McClain , sister Eleanor Stewart and brother Thomas McClain.
He is survived by his wife Erving McClain , sister Johnsie Grier , son David Todd McClain ( Tre’Cee) and his four grandchildren Demario Stinson ( Lachanria) Ke’Cee Collins ( Andre) Jessica McClain ( Javonte’) and David T, McClain II ( Dominique) and 5 great grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews. Joseph will always be remembered for his compassion to others , encouraging words and legendary spirit.
