Katha Stewart Obituary

Katha Laverne Vanderburg Stewart affectionately known as Sis, was born in Iredell County on April 6, 1949, to the late James Haskel Vanderburg and Levada Graham Vanderburg. She departed her earthly life on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at her home in Troutman, NC following an extended illness.

Katha graduated from Unity High School, Statesville, NC. She attended Salisbury Business College and Mitchell Community College where she received an associate’s degree. Katha worked for Burlington Industry for years and retired from Mitchell Community College. Katha had a bright smile and a soft spoken voice. Everyone knew her by her smile. She loved to encourage people and considered herself a mother to many.

She joined Morrows Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and continued as a faithful member. Under her membership she served as Church Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Church Secretary, Charge Conference Secretary, Usher Board, UMW President/Secretary and she was crowned “Miss Morrows Chapel”. Katha loved the Lord and would help everyone she could that needed her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Tessie L. Graham

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband Audrey G. Stewart, Sr. of the home; two daughters, Gwendolyn Kadima (Ben) of Statesville, NC; Audrea Stewart. of Columbus, GA and one son Audrey Stewart, Jr. of the home; one brother, James M. Vanderburg; eight grandchildren, Jaquez Vanderburg (Tamara), Keria Stockton, Aleidra Vanderburg, Jakayla McBroom, Joshua Stewart, Jaecob McBroom,  Mousa Kadima, A’Dreyia Mills; twelve great grandchildren; one special niece, Miriam Miller and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends..
