Lavon Deloris Sturgis

Lavon Deloris Sturgis departed this earth peacefully to her Heavenly Home on Monday February 6, 2023 at her home in Winston Salem NC, at the age of 86. Lavon Sturgis was born on April 18, 1936 in Iredell County to the late Mingle Mills and Ester Mae Mills.

Lavon was a graduate of Unity High School in Statesville NC. She went on later and worked for Fieldcrest Cannon Mills for over thirty years where she retired.

Lavon was a devoted and loving Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend to many. Lavon was devoted to her faith at an early age. Lavon joined Gethsemane Baptist Church in Davidson NC where she served faithfully on the Usher Board and was a Deaconess.  She later became a member of New Life Baptist Church in Concord NC. Lavon was a member of the Gospel Toilettes for many years.

Lavon was preceded in death by her parents Mingle Mills and Ester Mae Mills, two husbands Bub Sturgis Jr. and Robert Roseboro, and four children Avery Alfonzo Sturgis, Pamela Christine Dysart, Paula Lorraine Brice, and Star Rene Sturgis; and 1 brother Mingle Columbus Mills.

Lavon is survived by 4 children; Carolyn Sturgis (life long friend David) of Winston Salem; James Sturgis (Carrie) of Concord; Cynthia Sturgis of Cornelius; and Della Sturgis of Mooresville; and 1 sister Gloria Jean Steele. She leaves to cherish 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
