Linda Johnson Obituary

Linda Joyce Tucker Johnson, 72, was born in Mooresville, North Carolina, on February 11, 1949, to the late Walter John Tucker and Juanita Vanderburg Tucker Moore. She departed this life on Saturday morning, June 19, 2021. She was proceeded in death by her stepfather, Herman Moore; sisters Althea Tucker Stuckey, Mary Moore Little; brothers Charles Moore, Chrisjen Moore, nephews Dale LaPaul Vanderburg, Isaac Nathaniel Sherrill, Jr.; and niece Kacina Vanderburg.

She married the love of her life, Robert Lee Johnson in 1974, and to that union they had two sons and five grandchildren.

Linda attended elementary and junior high in Iredell County schools, graduating from Unity High School in June 1967. She then went on to attend North Carolina Central University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in 1971 and Master of Arts in Library Sciences Degree in 1978. She began a career as a librarian at D. Matt Thompson Junior High School in Statesville, NC, then moved to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools working for many years as a Librarian/Media Coordinator at Eastway Junior High School and Devonshire Elementary School. She was a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators, the National and State Educators Association, and Retired Librarians. She retired from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools after more than 30 years of dedicated service.

As a young girl, Linda attended and became a member of Morrows Chapel United Methodist Church in Mooresville, NC. She often returned to support church anniversaries and Women’s events. After moving to Charlotte, she became a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in Missionary Group 5 & 6, the Library Committee, as Cub Scout Leader, and sang on the Sanctuary Choir and Hymn Choirs.

Linda enjoyed reading and inspiring others to be life-long learners, often buying books for family and friends for birthdays and special occasions. She was a great encourager, always sending cards, calling to offer a kind word, or baking a pound cake. She loved spending time with family and could be counted on to host and attend most any occasion. She had a generous heart, buying gifts throughout the year to bless others and give away for BINGO at summer cookouts.

Linda leaves to cherish her memory her husband of over 46 years, Robert Lee Johnson of Huntersville, NC; two sons, Justin Lee Johnson (BenJetta), of Holly Springs, NC, and Cameron Tucker Johnson (Chasity), of Rolesville, NC; six sisters, Brenda Vanderburg of Rahway, NJ, Sylvia Tucker of Rahway, NJ, Marjorie Torrence (Alexander) of Davidson, NC, Virginia Whitley (James), of Huntersville, NC, Rosa Cornelius of Charlotte, NC, and Cynthia Gibson of Huntersville, NC; two brothers, George Moore (Rose) of Huntersville, NC, Ralph Moore (Lucille) of Wilmington, NC, granddaughters, Gabrielle Johnson, Cydney Johnson, and Corinne Johnson; grandsons, Isaiah Johnson and Chase Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
