On February 10, 2019, Lola Jean Harrison won her race and went to receive her reward (s) in heaven as promised by the Lord. Lola (affectionate known as Aunt Lola), daughter of the late Lillie and Eugene Howard, was born in Mecklenburg County September 15, 1935. She departed this life at her home in Cornelius N.C. She attended Mecklenburg County Schools. She continued her education at Band Beauty College which she received her certification as a Licensed Cosmetologist. Aunt Lola married Jelder L. Harrison and spent over 40 years in holy matrimony! She retired from Mecklenburg County Gatlin Juvenile Detention Center and continued cooking and baking as a lifetime hobby. She was well known for her homemade Chicken Dumplings and her sweet potato cobbler and a variety of other dishes.......She was preceded in death by her parents, her one and only son, Rodney Fletcher Howard, her husband, Jelder Harrison and eight siblings. Severn, CW, Thomas, Nelson, Dean, Don, Fannie and Excell all welcoming her in heaven with open arms. She was a devoted and faithful member of Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church of many years. She loved her church and held several positions in the church that included Missionary, Usher Board, Lay Council and Kitchen Committee. She leaves to cherish fond memories: two sisters; Emma Payne, Mooresville; Frances Works, Concord; sister-in-law, Patricia Howard; brother, Everett Torrence (Fantu; niece/daughter, Tilwanna Young; special niece, Evetta Payne; and granddaughter, Tamia Howard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
