Mrs. Mable Love Johnson Torrence affectionately known as May, was the daughter of the late Mr. Clyde Johnson and Mrs. Elizabeth Harris Johnson. She was born on September 7, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina where she also received her education. Mable was united in holy matrimony in 1949 to the late Kenneth W. Torrence. Their covenant union lasted 58 years until Ken was called home. It was until death took them apart, but now it is death that has reunited them back together again! Mable was a loyal and dedicated member of Reeves Temple A.M.E. Zion Church until her health started to fail her. She was a member of the Choir, Missionary Department, Lay Council, and the Christian Education Department. Even when she could not physically attend church services, she remained a good steward. Mable diligently worked at Davidson College from 1949 until she retired in 1992 after 43 years of services. During her time of employment at Davidson College, she was a Culinary Specialist at a fraternity/sorority house that was affectionately named after the two cooks, Fannie and Mable.
