Margaret Ann (Sanders) Phifer

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Margaret Phifer, who peacefully transitioned on February 20, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on October 19, 1933, in Mooresville, NC, she was the cherished daughter of Mary Green and Sam Sanders and the beloved only child in her family.

Margaret was a trailblazer in her community, making history as the first female taxi driver in Mooresville while working for Terry’s Taxi. She also dedicated years of service to the Town of Mooresville and Crown Colony where her hard work and commitment left a lasting impact. She was well-known for her warm spirit, unwavering determination, and deep connections with those around her touching many lives near and far.

A devoted member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church, Margaret found great joy in her faith and the fellowship of her church family.

She is now reunited in eternal peace with her parents, Mary Green and Sam Sanders; her aunts, Mable Cornelius, Ruby Miller, Gladys Reid, and Sarah Bolden; her grandson, Andre Wilson; and her great-granddaughter, Denisia Wilson.

Margaret’s loving presence will be forever cherished by those she leaves behind:

• Daughters: Debra Saunders, of the home, and Billie (Mason) Wilson, of Mooresville, NC

• Sons: Ricky Saunders, of Mooresville, NC, and Robbie (Jonelia) Saunders, of Elgin, SC

• Stepson: James (Janet) Phifer, of Troutman, NC

She was a proud and devoted grandmother to 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends, all of whom will carry her love and wisdom in their hearts.

Margaret’s legacy is one of strength, kindness, and devotion to family and faith. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
