Marjorie Torrence, “Aunt Margie”, or “Titty” as she was affectionately known, was the third of nine children of the late Herman Carson Moore and Arlena Hunter Moore and was born on April 11, 1942 . She was also the stepdaughter of the late Juanita Vanderburg Moore.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James Alexander Torrence. Also preceding her in death are her brothers; Charles Moore and Chrisgen Moore; and sisters, Mrs. Mary Moore Little, Mrs. Linda Tucker Johnson, and Mrs. Althea Tucker Stuckey.
Marjorie attended Charlotte Mecklenburg County Schools. She retired from Davidson College as a head cook after serving 30 years. She was a faithful member of Davidson Presbyterian Church until her health declined. She was a faithful Sunday School member, member of the Vocal Choir, Deacon, and served on the Hospitality committee.
Marjorie enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing. She loved spending time with her family. She lived a simple and quiet life. She spent most of the day rocking in her chair at the front door of her home. Also, she enjoyed watching neighbors and bystanders walking up and down Westside Terrace.
She leaves to cherish fond memories of her life; two brothers, George Moore (Rose) of Davidson, NC, Pastor Ralph Moore (Lucille) of Wilmington, NC; five sisters, Virginia Whitley (Lonnie) of Huntersville, NC, Brenda Vanderburg, and Sylvia Tucker of Rahway, NJ; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Little of Wadesboro, NC and Robert Johnson of Huntersville, NC; seven sisters-in-law, Cornelia Moore of Huntersville, NC, Barbara Moore of Mt. Gilead, NC, Virginia Bailey and Helen Parson of Wilmington, DE, Catherine Russell of Encino, CA, Marion Geter and Juanita Morrow of Huntersville, NC. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marjorie departed this life on December 21, 2023 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County in Kannapolis, NC and ascended into heaven. She will certainly be missed by all of the lives that she touched.
