Mrs. Nellie Bess Dykes Montgomery Stroud, 80 of Charlotte, NC was born February 19th, 1941 and transitioned into her heavenly home on August 21st 2021.
Nellie was born to the late Alexander Simmons Dykes and Mable Cauthen Dykes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Percival Stroud, daughter, Marie Yvonne Linder, son, Alexander Simmons Dykes, sisters, Geraldine Yvonne Dykes Foster Brandon Daniel, Estella Dykes Gibson, and Mable Brodie Broadway.
Nellie graduated from West Charlotte High School. She also Graduated from Dudley’s Beauty School and was awarded the “Most Determined Student Award”. Nellie worked at Leo’s Delicatessen for over twenty years.
Her spiritual journey led her to C. N. Jenkins Memorial Presbyterian Church (Formerly Brandon Presbyterian Church) were she sung on the gospel choir. She then followed her sister Geraldine Daniel and her “Favorite Brother-in-Law” Larry Daniel to Reeder Memorial Baptist Church. Her final years of the journey allowed her to follow them to St. Phillip Missionary Baptist Church, were she served on the Pastor’s Aide Committee and the Missionary Society.
Nellie will forever remain in the hearts of her loving daughter, Yvette Montgomery, granddaughter, Myisha Montgomery, great granddaughter, Londyn Mitchell, stepson, Rodney Monteith (Russhelle), brother-in-law, Pastor Larry Daniel, sister-in-law, Patricia Dixon, aunts, Etta Johnson, Maxine Gordon, and Ernestine Robinson, nieces, Masean Weathers (Maurice), Gina Broadway, Scharie Nance (Romonte) nephews, Mason Broadway (Robin), Golden Broadway, Prince Foster, Jr. (Kathy), Gerald Foster (Randella), Jeffrey Foster and many relatives and friends.
