Nelson Ray Smith

Mr. Nelson Ray Smith was born July 23, 1967 in Iredell County, North Carolina to Mr. Norman Caldwell and Mrs. Barbara Reid Graham and was the step son of Mr. Bobby Ray Smith.

Brother Ray (as he was called by his church family and many who knew him), unexpectedly went to his heavenly home on Wednesday May 5, 2021 at his residence in Charlotte, NC.

Ray was educated in Iredell County Schools and received his CNA Credentials from Mitchell Community College in Mooresville, NC.

He was a member of New Beginning Church, Concord, NC where he had served n the Deacon Board and Music Ministry.

He was employed at The Pines of Davidson in Davidson, NC, and last employed at Southern Metal Recycling Company as a Security Guard in Charlotte, NC.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving mother, Mrs. Barbara Graham and Step-father Mr. Lonnie Graham (Pop); four brothers, Elder Stefan Smith of Mooresville, NC, Marcus Lavette Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, Kenneth Mark Caldwell of Mooresville, NC, and Victor Moultry (Lisa) of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Donna Ruth Caldwell, Lisa Caldwell-Johnson, and Tawana Lashay Caldwell of Mooresville, NC; eight aunts, Ruby Reid of Statesville, NC, Mrs. Christopher Ann Baxter of Charlotte, NC, Mildred Smith Grier of Charlotte, NC, Lois Allison, Mary Carr, Paulette Caldwell, Ella Graham of Troutman, NC, and Jo Anne Graham of Mooresville, NC; five uncles, Mr. Ronald K. Reid of Statesville, NC, Mr. Gary Lamont Reid of Mooresville, NC, Mr. Albert Caldwell, Mr. Walter Graham of Troutman, NC, and Mr. James Graham of Mooresville, NC; and a host of relatives and friends including a long time friend Keith Purrentine of Charlotte, NC, and his lovingly called Soul-Sisters (Sondra, Sylvia, and Tosha), The Roseman Sisters.
