On November 21, 1943 in Iredell County, North Carolina, Oscar Linard Fleming was the second child born to J P “Curlee” and Banner Lee Stockton Fleming.
Oscar grew up in Rowan County where is received is formal education at Aggrey Memorial High School, Landis, North Carolina. During his adult life until declining health, he was an employee at Burlington Mills in Mooresville,North Carolina and then at Cannon Mills Plant 1 in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
In 1999, Oscar became a resident of Brightmoor Nursing Center, in Salisbury, N.C. In this facility he was an active part of the Center's life. Once, Oscar was elected as the center's king for the year. When incidents occurred that he felt were unfair, Oscar would speak out and let people know just how he felt and why. He secured televisions and other items that he thought the center needed. Everyone knew him. Instead of eating the standard meals, on many days, he requested and received whatever his meal request was. In the family, Oscar used his seniority and family position to keep the family informed and to get items, whether it was for others or himself. The major change in Oscar's life was the development, love and dedication in attending and participating in the Bible studies and religious services offered at the Center. If you were visiting during religious times he would invite you to join. If you chose not to join, Oscar would give you a friendly good-bye and proceed to the worship area. At Christmas, it was a joy for Oscar to have his extended family to come and provide a Christmas musical program for the residents and him. In 2019, Oscar's favorite song was Precious Lord Take My Hand which was sung four times until he was satisfied.
