Mrs. Eula Bell Herndon (née Sturgis), age 92, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully at her residence on April 2nd, 2021. Born on March 5th, 1929 in Mooresville, NC, she was one of 16 children of the late Bub & Carrie Sturgis. After stealing his heart, she married Lloyd Herndon on April 20th, 1946.
Eula was preceded in death by Lloyd Herndon after 69 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by their eldest son, Mason. As a five-generation Mother, she is survived by her remaining three sons, Floyd, Larry and John, and four daughters, Joyce Price, Betty Snead, Jetty Herndon, Brenda Overby; to include 15 Grandchildren and numerous 1st and 2nd great grandchildren.
She was founder and pastor of the Mount Zion Pentecostal/Holiness Church, a store-front worship center, located on Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia, PA. As a professional seamstress, she worked for the Humphrys Textile Factory – which produced products for the US Military – and retired after 25 years of service. She was avid in eating healthy and keeping fit; and was blessed, and known for having a gift for hospitality. As a true-to-heart southern gal, she enjoyed cooking and baking; (from scratch, because she had low tolerance for that processed stuff) canning her own fruit preserves and communion wine, and singing classic Gospel music. However; her greatest passion is arguably, the visiting of other churches to preach and teach the Word of God.
