Paulette Rene Shipp Brandon, affectionately called “Polly” or “Aunt Polly”, was born on November 8, 1946. On Thursday, August 5, 2021, Paulette went home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren William Brandon, her mother and stepfather, Daisy Lee Gibson and Boyd Luge Gibson, her father, Elmo Grier and her granddaughter, Mar’Quesha Sha’Nea Carr.
Paulette was raised in Cornelius, NC and was the oldest of three sisters. She was a proud graduate of Torrence-Lytle High School where she was a majorette and clarinet player in the Trojan Marching Band. She also participated in the Glee Club (choir) and dance. Paulette sang in the Charlotte Singing Christmas Tree that was featured on television. After high school, she attended and graduated from Dudley Beauty College located in Charlotte, NC. Her favorite hobbies were singing, cooking, and artistry.
Paulette was a lifetime member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where she served her church family well in various roles. She was a Trustee, a member of the Gethsemane Gospel Choir, and served anywhere else a helping hand was needed. Paulette loved gospel music, especially quartet music. She was a loyal member of The Gethsemane Gospel Singers since the 1960’s. Paulette also sang with The Messengers for Christ. She was especially known for her beautiful smile and anointed singing voice. Every time she showed up at a singing, she was asked to sing “Running for my Life” and “Life’s Evening Sun”.
Paulette leaves to cherish her loving memories two children; her daughter, Sonya Yvette Shipp and son, Willie Manolito Brandon (Tamica); grandson, Caseem Lywaun Cornelius (whom she raised as her own); six grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Nora Redfear (Johnny) and Lugera Gibson; best friend, Peggy Rivens, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
