Obituary

Reverend Willie E. Knox, age 80, of Mooresville, NC, went home to glory on Saturday, March 4, 2023, after an extended illness.

He was born in Iredell County on March 22, 1942, to the late Eugene Farrar and the late Mary Bethel Knox. He graduated from Dunbar School in 1960, received his Associates Degree from Rowan Technical College in Salisbury, NC. He also furthered his education by obtaining his barber license from Modern Barber College and he was honorably discharged from the US Army following barber school. Reverend Knox married Mona Shirley Kennedy in 1967. In addition to barbering, he was a well-known mechanic, tax preparer and transportation business owner.

Reverend Knox was a past Master of #5741 Lodge of the Sublime Prince of Royal Secret Masonry.

Reverend Knox was saved, sanctified holy, Holy Ghost filled, and fire baptized at Bethel Baptist Church at an early age. He was later ordained as a licensed Minister of the Gospel by Reverend Levi Reid, better known to him as Pop in 1983. He was reared in the ministry by the following Ministers of the Gospel: Reverend Levi A. Reid, Reverend Roscoe Ramsey, Reverend Kay F. Gamble and mentored Overseer Jeffrey H. Wallace.

Reverend Knox loved people, was loved by people, and took pride in making friends, claiming brothers, sisters, and children all over. He ministered to all he came in contact with and believed in family.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by George Farrar, Eugene Farrar, Jr., Joyce Grant, Cynthia Farrar-Pratt.

He is survived by his loving wife of the home, Shirley Knox. He’s survived by four sons: Rodney Sloan; Barron Kerns; Bishop Kevin Lytle (Pastor Selma); Lee Knox (Kim). He has six daughters: Karen Simpson (Apostle Charles); Veronica Coleman; Bregenia Smith (Corey); Mavis Knox; Tamara Morris (Cedric); Evangelist Lynn Knox (Gene Wade). He also has three special daughters: Jacqueline Gamble, Danna Gore-Savage, and Evangelist Patricia Ware.

In addition to his children, he has five brothers: Reverend Roscoe Ramsey (Patricia); Reverend James (Alvin) Ramsey (Gwendolyn); Reverend Dr. David B. Ramsey; Willie McCombs (Sadie) and Eugene Farrar. He has eleven sisters: Vivian Brandon; Glenda Walker (Cal); Darlene Johnson (Reverend Milton); Apostle Martha Ramsey; Paula Robinson (Oliver); Pastor Carla Harrison (Dr. Grant Harrison); Mary Frances Troutman (James); Bessie Belton; Alice Connor (Guydell); Lois Parker (James); and Betty Porter (Marvin).

He has 40+grands with many, many great-grands; nieces, nephews and a host of many others.
