Robert was born in New Edinburg, Arkansas on May 19th, 1938. He graduated from Warren High School as part of the Class of 1955. In 1955, Robert joined the United States Navy at the age of 17 and later retired after serving 20 years. Upon moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, Robert became a member of Reeves Temple AME Zion Church in Davidson, North Carolina where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board.
Upon earning his associate degree in Food and Nutrition Services from Central Piedmont Community College, Robert served in managerial positions at Sears, The Fresh Market, and The Home Depot.
He enjoyed spending time with family and travelling. He was an avid cook, as his family have fond memories of his lasagnas and making pizzas from scratch. He loved completing a good crossword puzzle and watching westerns.
On Sunday August 11th, 2024, God dispatched his Angels to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC to relieve Robert of his suffering and give him enteral rest.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife of 46 years Johnsie Marks, of this union, one daughter, Chauncee Marks of Charlotte, NC; of a previous union, son, Kevin Marks of Goose Creek, SC; daughter, Maureen Marks-Diew (Anthony) of Dallas, NC; bonus daughters, Marquetia Ponder (Daniel) of Montclair, NJ; Sonya Martin (Tony) of Charlotte, NC; and Trina Hay (Willie) of Charlotte, NC. 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild, and a host of extended family and friends.
