Roosevelt “Kit” Henderson

Mr. Roosevelt Henderson, 94, known to all as (“Kit”) was born on April 16, 1929, to the late Alfonzo Henderson and Katie Rhyne Henderson (the last surviving of 13 children).  He departed this life on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Novant Health Hospital in Huntersville, NC.

Roosevelt was a beloved husband, father, brother, friend and a loyal Los Angeles Dodgers fan.  He was well known in the community and was a lifelong member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.  Roosevelt was an original member of the Mt. Olive Gospel Chorus and he organized the Mt. Olive Men’s Chorus serving as president for 29 years.  He also served Mt. Olive as a Deacon, Trustee, Men’s Softball Coach, Grounds Keeper, Boy Scouts Leader, Church Bus Driver, member of the Mass Choir, Senior Choir (member/president) and unofficially as the Church Cemetery Historian.  On June 16, 2018, Roosevelt also received the key to the City of Huntersville for being a “giant historian and storyteller” of Huntersville’s history.

He is survived by his wife Ida Catherine Barringer Henderson of the home; daughter, Brenda H. Smith (Wayne) of Denver, NC, and son Jerry L. Henderson of the home.
