Mrs. Ruth Marie Caldwell Kernes, daughter of the late Robert Waddell Caldwell and Bolivia Burton Caldwell, was born in Iredell County on February 27, 1931. She entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, North Carolina following a short illness.
Mrs. Kernes was a graduate of Dunbar High School in Mooresville, NC and was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess Board, Missionary Board and Senior Choir. Mrs. Ruth also started, along with her Mother Bolivia Burton Caldwell, the Buds Choir of Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Mooresville, which later grew into the Chanel Choir of Jones Chapel.
Mrs. Kernes was a part of Dunbar Alumni and was the OES Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Association, Mars Chapter #395 of Mooresville, North Carolina.
She was married to Nathaniel Kernes, who also preceded her in death in 1993, and with that union they leave to cherish the loving memories of her life to 1 Son of the home, Nathan Allen Kernes, 2 foster Sons: Robert Anthony Hines of Charlotte, NC, Allen Delanti Hines of Salisbury, NC, a foster Daughter, Yvette Marie Hines of Bronx, New York, one Brother, Clinton (Faye) Caldwell of Mooresville, NC, one Sister, Eva Caldwell Cornelius of Mooresville, NC, 11 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Loved Ones.
