Shirley Jean (Knotts) Black

Mrs. Shirley Jean Knotts Black, 77, was born on January 15, 1942 in Anson County to the late Clyde Chambers and Madgie Effie Knotts. On Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at University Hospital in Charlotte, NC and in the loving presence of family, the angel of grace and mercy touched the eyelids of Shirley and she quietly fell asleep.Shirley attended Gulledge School. She was employed by Reeves-Curon (Foamex) for many years.  She was employed by Davidson College at the time of her death.   During her early years, Shirley was a member of Cedar Grove AME Zion Church in Concord, NC.  After her marriage to Keith H. Black, she joined Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church where she remained an active and faithful member of the Senior Choir, Mass Choir, Missionary Society, Stewardess Board, Lay Council and served as a Class Leader. Shirley enjoyed shopping, cooking, especially baking cakes.  If anyone needed help, she did not hesitate to give a helping hand. She lovingly provided transportation for a number of her church members. Shirley had a quiet smile and a soft and gentle handshake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Howard Black, her brother, Curtis Knotts and sister, Pearlie Mae Knotts Chambers.She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories:  her sons, James Henry Davis of Raleigh, NC, Jonathan Davis and Mitchell Davis of Charlotte, NC; her only daughter, Shirley Ann Davis of Charlotte, NC; step-children, Carl Black, Michael Black, Karen Black Sloan, Rosetta Walker, Kivette Johnson and Darlene Robinson; brothers-in-law, Richard Black, Sr. and Howard J. Chambers; sisters-in-law, Shirley Black Sherrill, Shirley Moore Black and Juanita Archie; nine (9) grandchildren, twelve (12) great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, favorite niece, Eva Sloan Henderson; godson, David Johnson; special friends: Tollis and Brenda Johnson, Zellar Morrison,Georgia Anderson and Emma Sloan.
