Tony Mitchell Blackwood, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend, peacefully transitioned on September 8, 2024, at his home. Born on December 28, 1959, to the late William and Annie Mae Farr Gallmon Blackwood of Mooresville, NC. Tony’s life was a testament to his unwavering dedication, generosity and love for those around him.
After completing his formal schooling in Mooresville Graded School System. Tony embarked on a successful career that spanned decades. He worked at Burlington Industries Textile as Finisher Operator for 21 years and later retired from Walmart Supercenter.
Tony was a member of Shinnsville United Church of Christ of Troutman, NC where he enjoyed attending church gatherings. His unwavering commitment to his faith and willingness to help others were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Beyond his professional and spiritual pursuits, Tony had a zest for life. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on his New England Patriots, his beloved Duke Blue Devils, and his favorite NBA team: Golden State Warriors. Because of his love for fast cars, he attended many drag car races. In the summer months, he found solace and joy on the golf courses, going fishing, family night BINGO and of course attending his grandson’s baseball tournaments.
Tony’s greatest love was his family. He shared 27 years of marriage with his wife, Jacqueline, whom he loved immensely. And spending time with his children as well as grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Tavares Westmoreland, one sister: Ethel Mills, and four brothers: John William Blackwood, Dennis Blackwood, Garry Blackwood, and James “Ollie” Blackwood.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Jacqueline Westmoreland Blackwood of Troutman, NC; Five daughters: Yolanda Westmoreland of Troutman, NC, Bonita Westmoreland of Troutman, NC, Maria (Marco) Wilson of Mooresville, NC, Shanita (Ricky Sr.) Smith of Mooresville, NC, Pontina (Terrance Sr.) Briskey of Salisbury, NC, and One son: Arian (Chelsea) Sanders of Charlotte, NC. Fourteen grandchildren: E’zavian Westmoreland of Troutman, NC, Miracle Westmoreland of Troutman, NC, Destiny Blackwood of Salisbury, NC, Donnita Blackwood of Salisbury, NC, Dezariah Blackwood of Salisbury, NC, La’Mya Briskey of Salisbury, NC, Terrance Briskey Jr. of Salisbury, NC. Mar’Cayla Wilson of Mooresville, NC, Myah Wilson of Mooresville, NC, D’Andre Teasley of Mooresville, NC, D’Angelo Teasley of Mooresville, NC, D’Arian Blackwood of Mooresville, NC, Ricky Smith Jr. of Mooresville, NC, Arian Sanders Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Cadence Sanders of Charlotte, NC. And two great grandchildren: Layah Teasley of Mooresville, NC, Enzo Teasley of Connecticut.
He is also survived by four sisters: Judy B. Lawrence of Mooresville, NC, Aserlee Blackwood of Kannapolis, Ruth McLaughlin of Statesville, NC, and Linda (Michael) Sanders of Mooresville, NC. One baby brother: Calvin Blackwood of Mooresville, NC. His mother-in-law: Patricia Westmoreland of Troutman, NC. Two sisters-in- law: Delores Ferrell of Troutman, NC. Arnetta Blackwood of Statesville, NC. Two brothers-in-law: Carlos (Stephanie)Westmoreland Sr. of Clemmons, NC. Darin (Rossiland) Westmoreland of Statesville, NC. Numerous nieces and nephews, a host of aunts, uncles, and other cherished relatives.
Tony Mitchell Blackwood will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched, a testament to a life lived with love, kindness, and unwavering dedication.
