Trina Daniels Obituary

Trina Elisha Daniels was born in Newark, N.J. on August 24, 1971. She is the daughter of the late Bernice Daniels.  Trina was the youngest of seven (7) siblings. Novella, Irene, Marie, Theresa, Darnell and Arnell.

While living in New Jersey at the age of 8, Trina became a foster child in the Smith family. She attended Newark Public Schools and East Orange Public Schools. At an early age she joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Newark, NJ and was baptized by Rev T. Van B. Rhoe.

In April of 1988 Trina moved with her foster mother Elvera Smith (Grandma) and their blended family to the community of Shinnsville in Troutman, North Carolina. Here she completed her education and participated in a training program at the Iredell Vocational Workshop in Troutman N.C. For several years she participated in the Special Olympics. Trina was an active and faithful member of Shinnsville United Church of Christ where she loved to sing in The Voices of Victory Choir. She also looked forward to fellowshipping with other churches most Sunday afternoons.

In 2012 as the result of a variety of health issues, Trina was admitted into The Brian Center Health and Retirement Center (now known as Accordius Health at Mooresville) where she resided until her passing on Friday October 2, 2020. While living in the Center Trina was very involved in doing many of her favorite things. She loved chatting on the phone, listening to and singing gospel music, checking out what was being posted on Facebook, taking photos and face timing with friends and family. Trina liked putting together intricate puzzles which were framed and displayed on some of the hallway walls in the Center. She looked forward to the weekly bingo games especially since Grandma would come and participate by calling the game and giving out treats. Until her health no longer permitted Trina loved getting in her wheelchair and visiting her friends rooms throughout the center as well as outings to the store.

Trina’s bright, friendly smile would light up a room and made it easy for her to make friends wherever she went. In spite of the many physical disabilities, health issues and struggles she had to face, Trina always had a kind spirit and zest for life. She will surely be missed by family and friends, the staff at the center and the many people she came to know through her church affiliations.

Trina leaves to cherish  her memory two sisters Marie Daniels, and Theresa Atkins of Newark, N.J.  twin brothers Arnell Daniels and Darnell Daniels of Washington D.C   and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. She will also be sorely missed by her foster family of 41 years. Foster mother Elvera Smith (grandma) Sisters- Jacqueline Finney (Sheldon) of Piscataway, N.J., Yvonne Smith of Elizabeth, N.J.
