Zelda Odette Hall Turner, born October 23, 1964 to the late Ralph & Edna Hall in Statesville, NC. She transitioned to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 7, 2021 with her loving family by her side at Gordon Hospice Care of Statesville, NC.
Education and setting herself up for success were always important to Zelda. She graduated from Statesville High School with the class of 1983. She then attended Mitchell Community College several times throughout her life; first, graduating in 1986 with an Associate in Business Administration, then again in 1997 for an Associate in Arts in 1997, and finally in 2005 for a certification in Phlebotomy. She was always ready and willing to learn.
Zelda had a passion for community and supporting the people she lived around.. She worked for the Salisbury Housing Authority for 5 years as well as the Statesville Housing Authority for another 12 years. After leaving the workforce Zelda still had a passion for helping people so she set off on her own personal endeavors. She along with her husband and kids opened a consignment shop, named for her children Zachary and Leondria, called @ZachLee’s. This place was aimed to help support women going through Breast Cancer just like Zelda did. After having success with @ZachLee’s, Zelda still wanted to help the youth of Statesville. With a fire in her belly, and plans to be put into action, she founded a program to assist the youth of today integrate into the workforce and give them the hands-on job skills that are needed to break into the working class. At the young age of 18 she entered the job force at Iredell Memorial Hospital, she remembered being terrified of interviews, public speaking, and not knowing how to conduct herself and could only wish there was something or someone that could have helped her navigate the workforce. So the program that she founded in 2017 and served as the Executive Director for is called YIPE- Youth Individuals Pursuing Employment in Iredell County Inc. Through this program she teaches young adults ages 14-21 how to prepare for real world experiences in the workforce. Once YIPE was well underway she felt like she needed somewhere for the youth to put all the knowledge that was gained to the test. As an extension of YIPE she opened the ReBoutique, and all the profit made was put back into YIPE. Not only wanting to help youth she wanted to help her generation as well by being a coach to entrepreneurs like her so she started another business called The Coach in Me. Zelda’s drive and passion for the helping people succeed did not stop with just the community that she worked and lived in, but extended to her family, especially her nieces, nephews, and friends alike.
She leaves to cherish a triumph of special memories, her husband of 32 years, Dexter Turner; four children, Leondria Turner, Zachary Turner, both of the home, JaQuan Kerns of Charlotte, NC, and Marie Pierce (Alvin) of Winston Salem, NC; Seven grandchildren, Amira Moses-Turner, Amir Pierce-Turner, Zaydah Pierce, Zander Pierce, Cameron Pierce, Jania Purvis, and Jaylin Kerns; two sisters, Deborah Summers and Chris Beamon (Milton) both of Statesville, NC; mother and father in-law, Garland and Leona Turner of Mooresville,NC; sisters-in-law, Pamela Bryant (Thomas), Trevis Turner both of Mooresville, NC, and Carolyn Parker of Kannapolis, NC; brothers-in-law, Pop Turner (Sharon) of Gastonia, NC, Dwan Lytle of Hickory, NC.
